JOGGING FOR LIFE – March 2022

“ If we could give every individual the right amount of food and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.” — Hippocrates St Marys Hospital organized the “Run for Life “ exercise within the month.  Participants included the members of the hospital staff , priests and seminarians , youths from Umuowa community, and other members of the general  public. According to Director of Clinical Services, St Marys Hospital Umuowa, Dr Clement Kaduru, “ You can slow down the aging process with as little as 15 minutes a day of moderate activity. Exercise is good for you. These words have been a medical mantra for the last 40 years, but the adage is still as fresh as ever.” “People often fixate on their cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure numbers. But exercise is the dimension that moderates other risks,” says Dr Kaduru. “If your cholesterol is a little high but you are fit, it’s quite different than if your cholesterol is a little high and you’re sitting on your couch all day.” In a nutshell, it is noted that the more exercise you get, the better off you will be, as long as you don’t hurt yourself. That said, any physical activity is better than being sedentary. Also leading the jogging was the chief physiotherapist , PT Uche Ojobo, who further ascertained that , “Mountains of research attest to the fact that as little as 30 or even 15 minutes of moderate-intensity activity most days of the week can help lower your cardiovascular risk.”   He noted that the hospital has a fully equipped Fitness and Gym centre for fitness and exercises , and that this external jogging exercise is part of activities for the 20 years anniversary celebrations. The jogging exercise was filled with much fun , happiness , smiles , ecstasy and sweats.
