CHILDREN’S MEDICAL AND SURGICAL MISSION – MARCH 2022.

As part of activities for the 20 Years Anniversary of the hospital , the hospital organized a free medical and surgical mission for children 0-18 years within the region and beyond.  The medical mission took place from 15th to 18th March 2022 ; in the newly constructed Children and Adolescent Complex building.   About 1500 children with different degrees of medical and surgical problems were treated.  About 30 patients had free surgeries of various congenital and acquired pathologies. The medical mission attracted specialist in different fields of paediatrics- neonatology , adolescent medicine , paediatric cardiology, paediatric surgery and paediatric physiotherapy, and support services of paediatric nurses and other care staff.   Speaking at the occasion , the head of department of paediatrics Dr Stella Adikuru highlighted that “ every child deserves good medical care, and it is our commitment to provide free and comprehensive medical care to all the children in the zone and beyond”.   The Director of Clinical Services , Dr Clement Kaduru , who led the team of surgeons for all the surgery cases , said the operated on a lot of hernias, hydrocoele and a case of syndactyly.   He noted that the surgeries were free of charge , as the hospital took care of the bills for the drugs , consumables and surgery fees. Many of the parents were very happy with the treatments they received for this medical mission , and thanked the hospital for this gesture.  One of the parents , Mrs Ngeremotu lamented how the son had two hernia on both sides since he was born , and could not afford the cost of the surgery , but now had the surgery free at St Marys!
