HELPING BABIES BREATH {HBB} TRAINING MARCH 2022.

As part of measures to help reduce the neonatal mortality and mortality rates in the region, our hospital – St Mary’s Children and Community Hospital Umuowa , organized a one day Training for all the primary and secondary  Health facilities in Orlu zone.   The Training was held on Wednesday , 16th March , 2022.  This Training is fully funded by the hospital , in partnership with Kindermissionswerk Die Stersinger , who also built a world class Children and Adolescent Complex in the hospital. More than 50 health facilities participated in the Training, and they were all certified in all components on Neonatal Resuscitation and Management of Perinatal Asphyxia.  It is important that health facilities should know how to manage those babies that are born and are unable to breath , and need some assistance to establish the work of breathing , which is very critical for the premature brain development. Highlights of the Training was the inspection and visit to the newly built  St Marys Newborn Intensive Care Unit { NICU}.   The NICU  has 10 functional incubators , and with modern intensive care equipment. Some of the equipment include CPAP, Transcutaneous Bilirubinometer, Vein Finder, Neontal Vital Signs Monitors , Oxygen Delivery Systems and ultra high performance photometers.
